Why Cobb & Co Equestrian?

The Cobb & Co Coach pictured is a family treasure that was the inspiration for the name of the business.
The history of this original Cobb & Co Coach starts when it operated from Wilcannia to Bourke around 1900's. According to NSW Archives the coach proprietor was A.E.SLADE who operated from the Queen's Head Hotel, Wilcannia. The Cobb & Co Coach was promoted as the cheapest and most direct route to Sydney via Bourke and coaches left Wilcannia on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6pm. The fares for first class one way £10 and return £16. The coach then went on to be owned by the Ware family around the time that it was used as the crash vehicle in the 1960s TV show Whiplash. After this time it was sold and raised on a crane sitting above the Cobb & Co Car Yard on Parramatta Road in Sydney's west.
It wasn't until 1970s when Lyn's parents Val and Tony Ryan purchased the stage coach at auction and Ken Hodge, a master coach builder and family friend rebuilt the coach. In the 1990's the coach was primarily used to raise money for Tall Timbers RDA by Tony and his very talented dog Trotsky and on many occasion Grahame Ware and his horses were seen at the local fete's helping Tony with the fundraising in the Hills and Hawkesbury regions. It was during this period that Lyn volunteered for Riding for the Disabled and for 15 years was a coach of both vaulting and riding at Tall Timbers RDA.
Between 2010 and 2015 the Cobb & Co coach was housed at Richmond TAFE and was often used to teach students about carriage driving by Glen Denholm an EA Accredited Driving Coach and Whipmaker. The coach was a regular feature in the TAFE Spring Open Day and the Hawkesbury Farming Small Areas Exhibitions promoting Richmond TAFE and the Equine Studies Courses.
The Cobb & Co Coach is available for fundraising and educational purposes.
